Question 1

I'm not a choreography person. Won't Groovement be difficult for me?

Accepted Answer

Class slowly builds up in a way that's supportive of learning through repetition and muscle memory. We use the bulk of class time to learn little 4-8 count bits of movement that ultimately get strung together to become the piece of choreography that we do at the end of class. You can do it!

Question 2

I've never taken a dance class before! Can I still come to Groovement?

Accepted Answer

YES! Groovement is frequently people's first dance class experience. Lots of people who otherwise don't love being in dance classes enjoy their time in Groovement. It's a welcoming space that folks tend to leave feeling uplifted, even if they didn't get all the steps down.

Question 3

I don't identify as Black. Am I welcome in Groovement classes?

Accepted Answer

As long as you can honor that Groovement is an Afrocentric, QTBIPOC-friendly, liberation-focused, hate-free, and pro-love space, you are welcome! In a world where Whiteness is so often centered, often resulting in Black and other POC people having adverse experiences, we center Blackness.

Question 4

I can't afford to pay $22. Is there a way for me to join class anyways?

Accepted Answer

YES! There are sliding scale tickets reserved for each class for anyone who can't afford to contribute financially at this time. Please reserve these tickets only if you truly plan to attend, as they are limited.
