Grieving and Thriving: Science and the Arts - Together at the Edges

How are we moving forward?

When: Saturday, March 25th, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm EDT

As the moment of loss might be the edge between past and present, what is the edge in the context of grief? For some of us, as we look at that future and what we truly want, or what might come to pass, it can really scare us.

How do we deal with unrealized visions of the future? With the grief of a future that will never happen? How might we lean into what feels like mistakes or failures? In this uncharted territory, are we beginning to see things we didn’t see before?

If these questions resonate with you and you are burning to talk about it with others, come and explore these questions with us.

In our ‘Grieving and Thriving’ open space events hosted in 2022, we have explored spaces of grieving as well as the thriving that we believe becomes available when we allow ourselves to fully grieve. We seek ways our full humanness can show up - in systems, in institutions, in communities and for ourselves, individually.

Now we are still asking the same questions, but shifting to new ways to look at them. We invite you to join us.

Science, and art, may look at these dimensions and ask these kinds of questions in very different ways (if at all). We wish to explore that.

What do we need to face and release in order to thrive?

What no longer works?

What has not been working?

What maybe has never worked?

What is possible?

We have positioned these questions in the center of four anchoring ‘corners’ – grieving, thriving, arts, sciences.

Our hypothesis is that these conversations can help us stand in community at the finished edge of ‘now’ with deeper strength and greater wisdom and insight.

This is an invitation for people from all spheres to be fully present and go deeper into the theme of grieving and thriving in our work. This event is an opportunity to find others, across the globe, who are passionate about this topic.

You can attend this event from exactly where you are. We will gather online in a virtual circle, to welcome everyone who is interested in this conversation, inviting in what is emerging.

Each voice is important and we believe that anyone should be able to take part in this event, regardless of finances. Each ticket gives you access to the whole 5 hour event. Whether you're paying for it out of your own pocket, or using your organization's training budget, you choose what you think is a reasonable price. We suggest 20 US dollars. Your financial contribution helps us cover our online platform and facilitation costs.

How This Exploration will be Facilitated

Our first hour will include a series of stories about grief in the arts and sciences, with our colleague Kennan Salinero, scientist and principal founder of ReImagine Science and special guests Daniel Kohn, franco-american artist, co-leader of the Ocean Memory Project and Paul Levy, writer, technosopher and director of Rational Madness Theatre.

This will be followed by Open Space Technology, a meeting format inspired by the First Nations’ traditions. Open Space Technology offers a lot of freedom of action and expression to participants. The agenda is created on the spot, according to the topics you are passionate about. The day goes on at the rhythm of discussion circles which are created and then dissolved.
