Join Heather Rolon, LCSW-C as she creates a new discussion about how we think, and support our clients, in managing their various grief experiences. She will look, in detail, at the Timeline of Grief and focus on reframing the grief process. She will explore the importance of grieving as a unique experience and the value of integrating loss into our lives. At the end of this training, you will have a more holistic and human-centered view on grief integration and ways that, as clinicians, you can best assist our clients through their own process.

About the instructors

Heather Rolon, LCSW-C

Heather is an LCSW-C practicing in Maryland as a Program Supervisor in outpatient mental health. Heather has her Bachelors of Social work from West Chester University and a Master’s of Social Work from Columbia University. Heather has worked in the field for over 10 years. Heather has experience in foster care/adoption, medical social work, outpatient mental health, and supervision. Heather is passionate about grief and loss work and volunteers with The TEARS Foundation in Maryland after the death of her son, Fordham.

Heather is committed to supporting the therapeutic community in learning best practice in the realm of grief and loss.

2. Explain the importance of grief as a unique experience including the value of integrating loss into our lives

10:15am - Introducing Grief and Mourning, Stages of Grief Journey, Anticipatory and Residual Grief, Loss by Suicide

11:00am - Break

11:10- Cultural Implications of Grief/Loss, Gender responses and Loss

11:20- Break Out Room for Case Study/Debrief

11:45- Children and Loss, Child Specific Techniques to discuss loss

12- Break

12:15- Understanding Dual Process Model, Explanation of Theories related to Integration of Loss, and Post Traumatic Growth

12:45- Implications for Clinical Practice

1:10- Role Play “The Life Imprint: Beyond Good-Bye” Activity

1:25 - Return to Group to Discuss/Debrief

Registration

The fee for this course is $50.00 for individuals and $40.00 per person for groups of 5 or more. Registration can be completed through Eventbrite. Course Participation

This program is designed to engage attendees in conversation with the trainers as well as each other. We recognize the constraints of virtual trainings and remote work, and understand the need to have your camera off from time to time. However, in order for you and your fellow attendees to fully benefit from this program, having your camera on is highly recommended especially during breakout room activities.

Course & CE information

In order to receive full credit for this course, participants must attend for the entire duration of the course and complete an electronic course evaluation form. CE certificates will be electronically distributed within 7-10 days subsequent to verification of program attendance and completion of course evaluation form.

Thrive Behavioral Health, Provider #1729, is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved as ACE providers. State and provincial boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Thrive Behavioral Health maintains responsibility for this course. ACE provider approval period: 10/11/2023-10/11/2026. Social workers completing this course receive 3.5 continuing education credits.
