Event description

Description

Join the City of San Mateo for a two-part Greywater Workshop with Laura Allen.

Part 1: Greywater 101:

Learn how to save water while keeping your landscape green.

This presentation will teach you about popular greywater systems, their costs, capabilities, water saving potential, what plant friendly products to use, and code requirements.

Part 2: Design your Own Laundry-to-landscape System

Laundry-to-landscape systems redirect water from your washing machine into the landscape- Properly designed systems don't change your plumbing nor require a permit. Learn how to design your own system and build a mock-up one using real parts.

Bring photographs of your laundry room and your landscape to get design help!

Laura Allen is the author of The Water-Wise Home and cofounder of Greywater Action, a collaborative of educators who teach residents and tradespeople about affordable and simple household water systems that dramatically reduce water use and foster sustainable cultures of water. She leads classes and workshops, including the first training program for professional greywater installers, and participates in writing state government greywater and composting toilet codes. She lives in Eugene, Oregon.
