Grafting and Propagation Workshop
Overview
Cutting Propagation & Grafting Workshop
This hands-on workshop will introduce participants to two powerful plant propagation techniques: cuttings and grafting. Together, we’ll explore how plants are multiplied intentionally and how these skills can be used in home gardens, orchards, and community growing spaces.
The class will be taught by Stefan Strong of Sylmar Agriculture, a farmer and educator with deep experience in plant propagation and orchard management.
During the workshop, we will cover:
- How to take cuttings from a variety of plants, including when, where, and why to cut
- Basic principles of plant physiology that make propagation successful
- An introduction to grafting, including a few foundational grafting techniques
- How and why grafting is used in fruit tree production
Participants will have the opportunity to practice grafting firsthand, guided step-by-step through the process.
Each participant will receive:
- One apple rootstock
- Scion wood
- A grafting kit, including paraffin wax and grafting tape
This workshop is well suited for beginners as well as gardeners looking to deepen their propagation skills. No prior experience is required.
