About Goza: Curated by Melina, Goza is a fusion of Afro-Caribbean and Latin music influences intersecting with the sounds that shaped a generation of first-gen Latinos in the DMV. We’re not from here, but we’re not from there either—we exist in the in-between. Raised by immigrants yet deeply shaped by the sounds, style, and cultural influence of Black America—hip-hop, R&B and soul music. At the same time, American pop culture shaped our upbringing—VH1, TRL, 89.3PM, 97.1 FM in DC filled our screens and airwaves, creating the soundtrack of our youth.
About Orquesta Manplesa: At the intersection of tradition and youth, just past Mount Pleasant Street, lies Orquesta Manplesa. Named after the Spanish pronunciation of Mount Pleasant, the 9-piece salsa band is focused on upkeeping the musical tradition of Latinos in DC, especially in this historic neighborhood. According to salsa DJ Don Q, “it’s been 20 years since DC’s salsa scene had this much energy.”
Orquesta Manplesa lives by one rule: “keep them dancing.” Their eclectic mix of salsa, spanning eras and regions, keeps the dance floor alive all night. Orquesta Manplesa puts into music what it means to be from DC - community and joy above all else
