Government Contracts Unlocked: From Basics to Bids
Overview
Breaking into government contracting can feel overwhelming—but with the right foundation, strategy, and tools, any small business can confidently compete and win. This program is designed to guide you step-by-step through the essential elements of becoming a successful government contractor, whether you’re just getting started or looking to strengthen your existing approach.
Across four focused modules, you'll build the knowledge, infrastructure, and confidence needed to position your business for real opportunities in the federal, state, and local procurement marketplace.
Module 1: Creating a Foundation for Success
02/04/2026
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Begin by establishing a strong business foundation that sets you up for long-term contracting success. You’ll learn how to determine whether government contracting aligns with your goals, how to structure and position your business properly, how to identify the right NAICS and PSC codes, and what documents and registrations must be in place before pursuing contracts. By the end of this module, you’ll walk away with a customized checklist and actionable next steps tailored to your business.
Module 2: Certifications and Portal Registration
02/11/2026
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Certifications can open doors—if you know how to use them. In this module, we break down key small business certifications (SDB, WOSB, SDVOSB, 8(a), HUBZone, and more) and explain how they help your business stand out in the procurement ecosystem. You’ll also learn how to navigate core registration platforms like SAM.gov, DSBS, and state or local portals, with insight into common pitfalls that often delay a business from becoming contract-ready.
Module 3: Marketing and Capabilities Statements
02/18/2025
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Winning government work isn’t just about bidding—it’s about being visible, memorable, and relevant. This module teaches you how to market to government buyers and prime contractors, create a strong Capability Statement, refine your elevator pitch, and use research tools like FPDS and SAM to identify which agencies are buying what you sell. You’ll also learn how to build relationships and engage effectively at events and outreach sessions.
Module 4: Proposal Writing and Beyond
02/25/2025
5:00 PM - 8:00 PM
