Event description

Description

Looking for training for your board of health? Governance in Action for Public Health is for you.

Description

That boards of health bring together leaders from across disciplines is one of their greatest strengths. For this reason, ensuring they have a shared understanding of public health concepts will enable them to most effectively draw upon their expertise to impact population health strategies and outcomes.

This 7-module course will provide new board members with an orientation to the field of public health and initial strategies for population health improvement.

Features

The course draws upon the National Association of Local Boards of Health (NALBOH) Six Functions of Public Health Governance, and includes modules with short recorded segments (10-15 minutes each), examples from the field, optional discussion topics, and suggested resources. The modules are as follows:

  • Public Health: A Primer - Part A
  • Public Health: A Primer - Part B
  • Operating as a Board of Health
  • Financing Public Health
  • Contributing to Health Equity
  • Partnerships to Improve Health Outcomes
  • Supporting Population Health through Policy and Advocacy

Implementation Options

Choose the method that will work best for your board:

  • Viewing and discussing 1-2 modules at each of your regular board meetings over time
  • Holding special group viewing sessions dedicated to this training
  • Ask your board members to participate in the online course independently

Requirements for Completion

Although you have the option to register and participate in the course at the board level, we track course participation for each individual. To receive a certificate of completion, each course participant must:

  • Be registered for the course
  • View all 7 modules, whether individually or in a group setting
  • Pass a post-quiz following each module (7 total)
  • Complete a single evaluation at the end of the course

Process for Obtaining Access - Click the "Register" button at the top of this page to get started!
