Step inside the eerie elegance of Edward Gorey’s world — after hours, after dark, and with a distinctly queer twist.

Join Queer History Boston for a special twilight tour of the Edward Gorey House, where we’ll explore the hidden queer subtext, surreal humor, and campy morbidity woven through Gorey’s art and writing. This intimate after-hours experience invites us to wander through his peculiar imaginarium — a place where black dolls appear uninvited, calling cards announce nothing at all, and faceless figures hint at desires unspoken.

Concealing the Art: Edward Gorey’s Mysterious Messages

This exhibition delves into the devilish details of Gorey’s work — from the inscrutable Q.R.V. to the ever-present Figbash — revealing how his lifelong dance between mystery and absurdity conceals as much as it illuminates.

As a practitioner of Nonsense Literature and an iconoclastic surrealist, Gorey invites us to peer beyond the prim veneer and glimpse the curious, coded, and queer world beneath.
