Meet Maretta Zafuto — Entrepreneur and Owner of PNW Bettas

Maretta started her business, PNW Bettas, while she was still a student studying Marine Biology at Oregon State University. She didn’t have a big office or a fancy shop — she began right in a spare room of her college housing!

Maretta loved fish, especially bettas, and she wanted to make it easier for people to get healthy, happy fish shipped safely to their homes. So she took her passion and turned it into something amazing, using social media and her business savvy to create a national recognized brand. Today, she ships beautiful betta fish nationwide and is the proud owner of a brick-and-mortar store located in Corvallis, Oregon.

Maretta’s story shows that you don’t have to wait to follow your dreams — and you don’t have to do it the same way everyone else does. Whether you think differently, learn differently, or face challenges along the way, what matters most is believing in your ideas and not giving up.

If you love something — science, animals, art, or building things — you can turn that passion into something big. Just like Maretta did.
