Tuesdays from February 7, to March 21, 2017 at 1:30 PM -3:00 PM (seven-week series)

In this workshop series, participants will find and incorporate no-cost and open educational resources (OER) as replacements to costly commercial course materials. By adapting these resources then sharing it in an online repository, participants will be active contributors to the worldwide OER community.

This is a seven-week workshop series. Registering will register you for the following seven dates from 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM, in LC-108A.

  1. Articulate why OER is important
  2. Define open educational resources
  3. Identify resources that are openly licensed, public domain, or all rights reserved copyrighted
  4. Identify criteria for a good resource
  5. Find Open Educational Resources
  6. Evaluate OER resources using established criteria
  7. Share you work in the UH OER repository
  8. Distinguish different types of Creative Commons licenses
  9. Combine different types of Creative Commons licenses
  10. Add Creative Commons license to your work
  11. Properly Attribute OER resources

Workshop Format

This is a flipped workshop series where there will be at-home lessons to complete before the Tuesday in-class, hands-on activities.

  • Week 1: Introduction
  • Week 2: Why OER
  • Week 3: What is OER and What is a Good Resource
  • Week 4: Finding and Evaluating OER
  • Week 5: Creative Commons Licenses
  • Week 6: Attributing OER Materials
  • Week 7: Reflection
