Make Your Own Ceramic Lamp

Overview:

Join us for a 5-week intermediate workshop where we’ll handbuild modern sculptural lamp bases that combine clay and light. Using slab, coil, and hollow-building techniques, you’ll design two lamp bases (a primary and a backup - clay is unpredictable!) in a shadeless style where the glowing bulb becomes part of the piece. You’ll explore proportion, surface design, and glaze finishes, then wire your own lamp in the final session using a provided lamp kit.

Studio Access:
Call (814) 520-5089 when you arrive to be buzzed in. Need the elevator? Let your instructor know when you call—the lift is vintage and manually operated, and we’ll be happy to assist.

What’s Included:

• ~15 lbs. of Laguna B-Mix clay
• Use of all studio tools, glazes, and firings
• One complete lamp wiring kit (socket, black cord with inline switch, threaded rod, washers, nuts)
• G40 globe lightbulb
• Shared use of studio wiring equipment
• Access to Open Studio on Wednesdays (6–8 PM) and Saturdays (12–2 PM). These open studio times are supervised, but instruction is only provided during your class.
• Additional clay available for purchase

Policies:

• Minimum enrollment: 5 students
• Refunds available up to one week before class start (processing fees may apply)
• No refunds for missed classes—students are encouraged to catch up during Open Studio
• We reserve the right to cancel or postpone classes that do not meet the minimum enrollment. If canceled, you’ll have the option to transfer to another class or receive a full refund.

🎨 What Will I Learn? Our instructor will demo step-by-step techniques to guide you through your pottery adventure.

💔 What If It Breaks? We handle every piece with care, but pottery can be unpredictable. Some pieces may crack in the kiln due to quirks in the clay.

📦 When Do I Get My Pieces? Your finished work will be ready in about 2–4 weeks. You’ll receive an appointment card with pickup times.
