This learning event meets The Nevada Registry criteria for basic level wellness training. Participants will be introduced to current and evidence-based wellness information that applies to children 1-5 years old. Participants will build around their understanding to nurture healthy eaters among the children in their care.

Training Objectives:

•By the end of this session, learners will define and provide examples of structured activity and set standards for time spent per day

•By the end of this session, learners will define unstructured activity, provide and set standards for time spent per day•By the end of this session, learners will define sedentary activities and its impact and identify time limits per day

•By the end of this session, learners will define screen time activities and its impact and identify time limits per day

•By the end of this session, learners will define the serving size and types of milk/dairy products for all age groups

•By the end of this session, learners will address the MyPlate food groups by defining what they are, what types of food are in each portion sizes by age group and why they are important

•By the end of this session, learners will read and understand the various parts of food labels

•By the end of this session, learners will define sugary beverages and address the negative impact on children

•By the end of this session, learners will define food safety and identify how to keep food safe

•Define how obesity is measured in children and its limitations

•Identify the current statistics of obesity in children

•Identify contributing factors to obesity in children

•Define why obesity prevention is important

•Define the role of an educator in obesity prevention

Each professional development session offered by The Children’s Cabinet utilizes a knowledge check to ensure that our participants understand our training objectives and our instructors are providing a comprehensive learning experience. You can expect to receive a three question quiz or test at the end of each training. Childcare is not provided during class times. Due to safety and liability reasons, please do not bring your children with you to class. In-person traingins may be cancelled if there are fewer than five participants enrolled. If a class is cancelled, you will be notified via email and/or telephone. Additionally, it is Nevada Registry policy that participants who arrive 15 minutes late cannot receive Nevada Registry credit for the class.
