About this event
Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!
Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.
Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.
You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.
GIG Texas - San Antonio Guest instructors: Linda Olivares & Julia Medrano
Linda Olivares is a black belt with 14 years of Jiu-Jitsu experience, earning the rank in April 2023 under Professor Christopher Easter. She started training in 2011 at South Texas College in McAllen, Texas, and instantly fell in love with the art. Over the years, she has medaled in multiple IBJJF tournaments, with her most recent win coming at Submission Hunter in March 2024, where she finished in just 45 seconds. She specialize in No-Gi with a heavy focus on leg locks and a love for wrestling. In 2023, she founded the women’s-only program at Jiu Jitsu Syndicate San Antonio to create a space where women of all ages and backgrounds can train, grow, and support each other. Her mission is to lead with grace, build confidence, and help every woman succeed in theirJiu-Jitsu journey.
Julia Medrano has been training for just about 9 years now, currently a Brown Belt and fell in love the 1st time she stepped on the mat. She does her best to stay competing as much as God & life allows her. She balances out her Full time career in Fire Life Safety and Church life. Julia has competed many times over the years, ranging from local tournaments, super fights, and IBJJF. She dedicates herself and takes training seriously. She’s learned there is a balance between life and Jiu Jitsu. Although, with Gods Blessing & her dedication, she has won 3 Champ Belts, 26 GOLD Medals (Double Gold @ Pans, Double Gold @ Austin Open -Twice), 2 Money Wins, 6 Silvers & a handful of learned lessons. She hopes to continue as long as she can to stay competing. Her love for Jiu Jitsu has exposed her to many beautiful ppl and has changed her life for the better.
