Are you ready for some great Jiu Jitsu? because we are!

Girls in Gis is a community of women and girls in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu that come together through donation based training events. They are hosted, instructed, and attended only by women and girls. It's our time to come together! All ages and skill levels from any academy affiliation are welcome to attend. No experience required. Our events are designed for 100% participation, but do allow chaperones to accompany underage participants as spectators.

Our events are donation based in order to provide equal opportunity to everyone. Your donations provide paid teaching opportunities for our guest instructor(s) and help to expand and make Girls in Gis programs such as our events, our leadership program and instructional training programs and our scholarships possible. If you are not able to make a donation please contact us and we will work with you so that you are able to participate.

You can also purchase a GIG t-shirt, patches and more GIG merchandise with your donation. All orders can be picked up during the event.

GIG Arkansas - Cave Springs Guest instructors: Chelsea Martinez & Maritza Guerrero

Chelsea Martinez started jui jitsu in 2008 while pursuing an undergraduate degree. She found her passion on the mats and wanted to find some way to bridge education and love for jui jitsu. She continued to practice Jiu jitsu intermittently from 2008-14. Until she sustained a bad concussion that kept her off the mats for several years. In 2021 while she was pursuing her doctorate degree in physical therapy she was also suffering with depression and complex grief. Even considering self harm when she decided to return to BJJ after a 9 year hiatus, In 2023 she moved to Northwest Arkansas and joined Alliance and received her brown belt Dec 2023. Finishing the gi season #6 overall Master purple belt. She also works as a medic for IBJJF and AGF in addition to referee. She currently trains full time at Fayetteville BJJ.

Maritza Guerrero is a 59-year-old Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt who competes in the Master 6 division. A proud representative of Team Alliance, Maritza is proof that strength, resilience, and growth have no age limit. In 2023, she took home gold at the IBJJF Pan Championship, and in 2022, she earned bronze at the IBJJF World Master Championship—competing against some of the best in the world. Her journey in BJJ reflects a deep commitment to continuous improvement, mental toughness, and breaking barriers for women of all ages on the mats.

Maritza trains not only to win—but to inspire. She is part of a growing movement of women proving that Jiu-Jitsu is for everyone, and she encourages others to step onto the mat, no matter their age or background. Her message: “It’s never too late to start, and always too early to quit.”
