Event description

Description

Different and gifted minds are as critical to the survival of our human species as the concept of biodiversity is
to the sustainability of the planet. But within traditional developmental world views, as a society, we emphasize
competitive performance within increasingly ''neurotypical'' expectations. For gifted kids, perhaps more than
any other population, this negatively affects development and in time, their overall wellness. In this session,
Dr. Marlo Payne Thurman will briefly discuss how gifted children differ in their thinking, learning, processing
and even in their experience of the world. Dr. Thurman will then detail how these differences can ultimately
take their toll on the emotional and even the physical health of today's gifted youth,
targeting what can and should be done to help.
