When teams or organizations have problems delivering, it's rarely a problem with the people. I've seen too many groups of really talented people working long and hard but not getting anything done. Throwing more people at this problem only serves to complicate the issue rather than solve the problem. The solution lies in fixing the issues that the people face as they are working.

Kanban is a Lean process framework that forces our issues to the surface so we can improve our ability to add more value with less stress. When learning and improving is done consistently, you create a culture of learning that can transform your entire organization for the better.

Approach

This is a two-day, interactive workshop for people new to Lean and Kanban. You will experience the thinking process that guides the visualization of your work and work processes, highlights internal and external pain points, and establishes pull and flow. Games, exercises and discussions will be used throughout the workshop to explore topics in detail. You will receive a certification of course completion at the end of the 2nd day.

Goals for this workshop:

At the end of the 2 days, you will be able to:

• Understand the landscape and purpose of both Lean and Agile and recognize where Kanban fits.

• Design and build a Kanban system that reflects current demand and processes

• Apply strategies for visualizing common barriers to flow within your Kanban system.

• Explain why flow-based systems facilitate getting more done in less time with less stress

• Determine appropriate Work-in-Process levels and policies to establish and manage the flow of work.

• Choose relevant and timely metrics, use them safely, and reflect upon them in appropriate cadences.

• Identify emerging problems and experiments to continuously improve flow of work.

Logistics

The workshop will be held in the City of Seattle at the Chef offices near the waterfront.

Each day will begin at 9am and will end at 4pm.
