Getting started on a glossary: Jargon & Language - Working To Connect Small LGBTQIA+ Groups in Brighton & Hove
Working To Connect is inviting small LGBTQIA+ groups’ organisers for an informal session on commonly used language, which seeks to improve our understanding and develop a shared glossary for our communities to use.
Content will include:
- An overview of commonly used terms* used amongst charities, community groups and voluntary organisations
- Discussion and exploration of how these vary, depending on context, location and lived experience of those who use them
- Getting started on developing a resource for Working To Connect participants to use
The session will be ONLINE and limited to two representatives per group due to limited space. The Zoom link will be shared by 2pm on the day, please see accessibility information below.

Who can attend?
Working To Connect provides organisational support to Brighton & Hove’s small LGBTQIA+ groups, including those who are not yet constituted or registered. We consider our participants any group and/or organisers who seek to provide space, events or support to LGBTQIA+ adults living in the city who:
- Have an income of less than £100,000 a year and/or
- Have less than 3 full-time staff, or equivalent of.
Examples of groups who participate in our activities are: Dyke Peer Support, Trans Pride Brighton & Hove, Grow Your Life, Radical Rhizomes and Lunch Positive.
Who is running the session? This introductory training will be ran by Gray Hutchins (they/them), who has 10+ years experience in developing and growing grassroots organisations, and has spent recent years supporting various organisations to improve their accessibility.
Accessibility
If you have a specific accessibility request, please enquire upon booking your ticket and/or get in touch with Gray (hello@grayhutchins.co.uk) prior to booking closure on Monday 5th January 10am. This is to allow time to accommodate your request where possible.
For this session we will be using Zoom, which has an automated live-caption feature. There will be use of a presentation, and optional participation of discussion among attendees. The chat will be monitored, and upon booking, you can pre-submit a question for discussion if you prefer to remain anonymous.
