A CELEBRATION: MEET NATIONAL EXPERTS ON THE CENSUS AND REDISTRICTING AND PEOPLE WHO SHARE YOUR INTEREST IN WORKING FOR THE COMMON GOOD

About this Event

The Association of the Bar of the City of New York invites you to attend Get Counted NYC!, a significant census/civic education celebration on Tuesday, March 10 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Come to a celebratory evening to hear from the nation’s top experts on the census and redistricting, to toast the work of local census support organizations, and to meet others who share your interest in working together for the common good.

Census response is critical for the well-being of our city. What's at stake? Billions in federal funds for housing, education, and health care. The census forms will arrive in the mail beginning March 12!

The program will include plenty of opportunities for networking and informal interactions with attendees and presenters :

  • Dale Ho, Director, Voting Rights Project, American Civil Liberties Union, on the battle at the Supreme Court to remove the citizenship question from the census
  • Kenneth Prewitt, Carnegie Professor of Public Affairs, Columbia University; former Director of the United States Census Bureau, on how census results skew development
  • Meeta Anand, Senior Fellow, New York Immigration Coalition
  • Julie Menin, Director, NYC Census 2020, on the impact of census results on our city
  • Jeffrey Wice, Senior Fellow, New York Law School. Fellow, Rockefeller Institute, and national redistricting expert, on redistricting the right way
  • Onida Coward-Mayers, MirRam Group, Brooklyn NAACP, voter engagement expert
  • Roger Juan Maldonado, President of the Association, Partner, Smith, Gambrell & Russell, LLP
  • Co-sponsoring groups including the Caribbean Attorneys Network, the Macon B. Allen Black Bar Association, the Muslim Bar Association, the South Asian Bar Association of New York.
  • Co-sponsoring Association committees including the Election Law Committee, the Government Ethics & State Affairs Committee, and the New York City Affairs Committee.
