Join us for a lunchtime, 12 p.m.- 12:50 p.m., discussion about GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and geospatial inquiry. Topics include research, instruction, upcoming events, learning opportunities, and practical applications. A brief presentation is often included.
UCR affiliates from all disciplines and departments, at all skill levels, are welcome and encouraged to attend!

- October 15: Dr. Ahmed Eldawy, Associate Professor in Computer Science. Natural Language Maps: Generative AI for Spatial Data Generation, Querying, and Visualization: This talk will highlight recent progress in generating realistic spatial datasets from textual descriptions, answering complex questions that combine spatial reasoning with external knowledge, and automatically creating styles that make map visualizations more effective and interpretable.
- November 12: Gary Qin, Ph.D. candidate in Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology. Using QGIS in freshwater health assessment of the Santa Ana River Watershed: This talk will outline how QGIS and geospatial analyses were utilized in the assessment to provide context, visualize spatial variation, and explore potential solutions for sustaining freshwater health in the watershed.
