Geometry & Islamic Art Workshop
Overview
Geometry & Islamic Pattern Workshop
Date: January 10, 2025
Time: 2:30-5:30 PM EST
Location: The Compass Atelier, Kensington, Maryland
Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the timeless beauty of Islamic geometric patterns, presented in collaboration with MathArtPlay, a project at the intersection of mathematics and art. Dr. Rebin Muhammad—a mathematician, educator, and artist originally from the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and a co-founder of MathArtPlay—will share his vision of math as a creative experience.
In this session, you’ll see how symmetry, proportion, and creativity come together in intricate geometric designs. Participants will learn to construct traditional Islamic geometric patterns using a compass and straightedge, and will leave with a finished pattern of their own.
Open to students, educators, and anyone fascinated by the intersection of art and mathematics. No prior experience in art or math is required, just curiosity and creativity!
Materials provided.
