About this event
- Event lasts 2 hours
Biomaterials are reshaping the future of design, offering sustainable alternatives to traditional materials and opening up new creative possibilities at the intersection of material science, art, and design.
At our June Open House, Genspace Biomaterials Studio invites you to stop by the lab and meet the artists and designers participating in our Biomaterials Studio exhibit. They’ll be showcasing their prototypes and material samples from microbial dyes to bioplastics and mycelium objects. Whether you're a designer, scientist, artist, or just a curious person, this is a chance to learn about the potential of co-creating with living organisms in art and design.
During the open house, you’ll have the chance to:
- View (& touch!) material samples and prototypes developed by the artists and designers in the Genspace Biomaterials Studio in preparation for their September exhibit
- Meet the artists and designers behind the work and learn about their experimental processes
- Learn about innovative materials, techniques, and applications such as biocement kintsugi, machine knitting algae yarn, and microbial fermented dyes
- Ask questions, get inspired, and connect with a community exploring the future of sustainable materials
No prior experience necessary — just curiosity and a willingness to engage! In fact, we’d love to hear your feedback and thoughts on our material research and invite you to share your own knowledge with the artists and designers of Biomaterials Studio as they continue to develop their material in preparation for their final piece for the September show.
Please consider contributing a donation of $10 for Genspace’s Biomaterials Studio when you sign up for this event. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
