Gelli Printing Explorations

Join mixed media teaching artist Kat Sjogren for an introduction to Gelli plate printing.

What is Gelli Plate Printing?”Gelli plate printing is an accessible form of monotype printmaking that uses a soft, flexible printing plate made of gel. Instead of needing a press, artists apply acrylic paint, ink, or other materials directly onto the plate, then use textures, stencils, natural materials, or drawing tools to create designs. Paper is pressed onto the plate to transfer the image, revealing beautiful layers of color, pattern, and texture.

Each print is one-of-a-kind, capturing spontaneous marks and surprising effects that make the process both creative and meditative. It’s an ideal technique for beginners and experienced artists alike who want to experiment, play, and discover new ways to make art.

In this 3-hour workshop, You will explore the endless creative possibilities of working with markers, acrylic paint, charcoal, fresh flowers/fauna, and collage to create richly layered prints. No experience is necessary—just curiosity and a willingness to experiment!
