Kim is a force of nature and his vision and drive are helping to shape the way Unreal Engine is moving into the future. In this opening session, Kim will explore the ways in which our academic partners will play an important role in game education, visualization, and research.   


9:20 AM - Epic Games Internship Program Guidelines

This is the second year of Epic's Summer Internship program. In this brief session, Emily will outline what educators and interns can expect as we've opened this comprehensive program to the entire education community. Come hear directly from Emily about the best methods to lead students and recent graduates to this amazing opportunity.

Paul Oliver - Epic Games Director of Developer Support


We are fortunate to have Paul join us at our event this year. He helps to oversee global support for thousands of developers working with UE4. Both his wealth of knowledge and his understanding of development best practices will serve as valuable resources to all who attend. This presentation is not to be missed.    


9:50 AM - Growing the Unreal Engine Community in Schools

Chance Ivey - Epic Games Sr. Community Manager


Chance heads up our community efforts both online and in person. He is a driving force in our monthly UE4 Game Jams as well as events, project and developer promotion and many other initiatives at Epic. Chance will cover what Epic offers developers on the community and promotional side and how Epic is striving to get developers plugged into the worldwide and local Unreal Engine communities.


10:10 am - Unreal Engine Curriculum for Virtual Reality

Wes Bunn & Sam Deiter - Epic Games

Noam Ben-Avi & Jack Reidy - LayoutVR


In this VR-focused session, two of Epic’s top VR specialists, Wes Bunn and Sam Deiter, will share tips, tricks, best practices and upcoming VR features for UE4, while Noam Ben-Avi and Jack Reidy from LayoutVR will present their new open source curriculum for Unreal Engine VR.  This presentation is designed to inspire and motivate those working in virtual reality.   


10:30 am - Getting the most from the Unreal Engine Learning Resources

Lauren Ridge - Epic Games Technical Writer


Lauren will return by popular demand to share updates and insights to help you get the most from learning resources available atdocs.unrealengine.com.  With 1,500 pages of written reference and tutorials and almost 100 hours of video, understanding where to look is a critical component in the process of putting the vast Unreal Engine learning resources to work for you and your students.     


10:50 am - Quest-Based Learning in UE4

Dr. Cynthia Marcello - Professor, SUNY Sullivan


Dr. Marcello gave an amazing presentation on Quest-Based Learning in UE4 at our SIGGRAPH 2015 summit.  Since then, she and a team of students have been hard at work on an integrated suite of tools within UE4 to help instructors teach not only the engine itself but many aspects of game development utilizing principles of Quest-Based Learning as well.
