PART OF DENVER and COLORADO SPORTS HISTORY

Gates Tennis Center was founded and funded by the Gates Family Foundation to share the love of tennis with all who want to play. Providing country club-level excellence in facilities, programs, training, and competition was the Gates Family Foundation's gift to our Denver community in collaboration with Denver Parks and Recreation, and operated by The Park People.

Gates Tennis Center was created from humble beginnings as a landfill property (in Cherry Creek)— part of Pulaski Park. The Gates Family Foundation worked with Denver Parks and Recreation, and together in 1975, they designated an annexed section of Pulaski Park.

A unique public/non-profit facility, Gates Tennis Center was born during an exciting era of tennis providing access to all who love the sport. In 1975, American Arthur Ashe held his Wimbledon trophy high! Billie Jean King, a California public tennis facility athlete, won in the famous The Battle of The Sexes vs. Bobby Riggs. Two power house tennis champions Chris Evert competed with Iron Curtain defector Martina Navratilova—and are fast friends to this day.
