Gary Dourdan Presents: Kolâde and the ANCESTARS
Overview
Gary Dourdan Presents: Kolâde and the ANCESTARS Live at Groove | Sunday Jan. 18th, 2026 | 6PM Doors, 7PM Show
Music has always been an integral part of Gary Dourdan’s artistic journey.
Born and raised in Philadelphia in a music-loving family, he was surrounded by
creativity from an early age. His father managed jazz acts, his uncle played the
saxophone for Sister Sledge among others, and his brother, Darryl Durdin, was a
flutist and DJ at WRTI in Philadelphia.
Gary’s formal artistic training began at the prestigious inner-city program
“Freedom Theater” in Philadelphia, where he studied both acting and music. Later,
he began making weekly trips to New York City for auditions and music lessons at
the New School. Eventually, he relocated to New York to further his training,
studying the Meisner technique and honing his craft at the Lee Strasberg Theatre
and Film Institute.
His first band was called Rent Money. He later formed New Congregation
with Ricc Sheriden on drums. Soon, his musical growth led him to form Bell Café, a
band that would become a staple in New York, synonymous with groove,
multiculturalism and timelessness, doing weekly shows and immersing a loyal and
rapt audience to Soul, Rock and World infused sounds.
Please note: There is a two-item minimum, per attendee.
