Gallery visit of Rooted Resistance hosted by Lesly Deschler Canossi
Overview
Participating artist Shweta Bist will be joined by co curator (and artist) Caroline McAuliffe for this virtual conversation. This exhibition examines how creative practice, caregiving, and ecological advocacy intersect and amplify one another, exploring themes from nature's mutual support networks (like "Mother Trees") to generational stewardship, domestic ecological action, and collaborative pathways for environmental activism. This exhibtion offers an opportunity to engage directly with one of the most pressing conversations of our time: how we care for our kin and our planet in an era of ecological crisis.
Caroline McAuliffe, Allison Belolan, Katherine Gressel and Jocelyn Russell, of the Mother Creatrix Collective curated Rooted Resistance. Mother Creatrix Collective established in 2022 creates platforms that highlight the voices and experiences of artists navigating the complex intersections of motherhood, caregiving, and artistic practice. Through exhibitions, programming, and collective dialogue, MCC seeks to challenge dominant narratives around caregiving while amplifying the diverse perspectives of mother-artists whose work often emerges from—and responds to—the lived realities of parenting and creative labor.

These talks are designed to be concise 45-minute conversations in real time. The aim of this series is to offer wider access to art and artists' processes as they relate to sharing and showing work. Don't miss this opportunity to hear directly from the artist on collective care through artmaking and on forming an artist collective.
Hope to see you there!
