The Sergeant Colton Levi Derr Foundation proudly invites the community to the 12th Annual Gallantly Forward Gala, a powerful and inspiring evening dedicated to honoring our nation’s heroes and raising awareness for those battling the invisible wounds of war.
Founded in memory of Sergeant Colton Levi Derr, a decorated U.S. Army veteran who served courageously in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Foundation is devoted to helping veterans who continue to fight battles with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). On April 28, 2012, Colton lost his life to suicide after his struggle with PTSD. Known to his brothers-in-arms as “Delta Derr,” Colton was respected for his leadership, toughness, and compassion — a true warrior who never left a comrade behind. His story represents the heartbreaking reality that more than 20 veterans a day lose their lives to suicide.
In Colton’s honor, his family established the Sergeant Colton Levi Derr Foundation in 2012 with a threefold mission: Veteran Advocacy, Assistance, and Public Awareness. For many veterans, the fight does not end when they return home. Coming home often begins a new battle — one fought silently against unseen wounds. The Foundation stands alongside these warriors, offering hope, resources, and a community of understanding.
The Gallantly Forward Gala is the organization’s signature annual event, bringing together community members, veterans, families, and supporters for an evening filled with purpose, inspiration, and camaraderie.
This year’s program will open with patriotic music by Orion Potter and a Presentation of Flags by the Rapid City Police Department Color Guard. Guests will then enjoy a delicious dinner, social hour, and opportunities to participate in both silent and live auctions, featuring an exciting array of items donated by generous local businesses and community partners.
The evening’s entertainment will include a special performance by The Starfellows – 2 Brothers, 1 Piano, a dynamic duo known for their energy, humor, and incredible harmonies that light up every stage.
Tickets are just $35 — a price proudly held since 2014 — and must be purchased in advance. Tables and sponsorship opportunities are available, and supporters who cannot attend are encouraged to sponsor a veteran’s ticket or donate an auction item. Every contribution, whether through attendance, sponsorship, or donation, directly supports the Foundation’s mission to save lives and serve those who have served.
The Gallantly Forward Gala is a movement of remembrance, resilience, and renewal. It’s a night where stories are shared, hearts are lifted, and our community stands united to say: You are not forgotten. You are not alone.
