No previous training, certifications or experience are required! This is a basic, introductory level course.
This course will take place over 3 days as part of the 2023 Florida CERT Conference pre-conference training program. You do not need to be registered for the conference to attend the training.
The course trains residents to be prepared to assist their neighbors during disasters. Classes cover the following topics:
Disaster Preparedness
Disaster First Aid
Light Search and Rescue
Disaster Psychology
Terrorism Awareness
Incident Command System (CERT Structure)
Basic Fire and Utilities Control
The course culminates in a required full scale disaster exercise that allows participants to put the skills they have learned over the course of the program into action.
Most classes consist of hands on and lecture based training. Participants will be provided all materials needed to complete the course.
Participants must attend all classes, including required participation in the required final disaster exercise, to graduate the course. Graduates will receive a nationally recognized certificate of completion and a CERT backpack containing basic response items.
