The Future of Sustainable Design and Development: From Sustainability to Regeneration

Regeneration is the necessary evolution of today’s “sustainability “. Based in living systems frameworks, regenerative practice enables projects to form deeper connections with the systems they are part of, contributing to a healthier whole and ensuring long-term viability within their place, community, and ecosystem.

Join the George Washington Chapter of Lambda Alpha International (LAIGW) for an engaging luncheon conversation with Scott Brideau, Director of Sustainability and Regeneration at Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, as we explore what’s next for sustainable practice in design and development. Scott will share how this evolution is taking shape at Little and beyond and discuss key principles that can help the industry move toward a more integrated and ultimately healing approach to design and development.

Scott helps lead firmwide initiatives to advance sustainability, resilience, and regenerative practice. As part of a multidisciplinary team, he aligns sustainability with Little’s mission and values while driving the strategic growth of the firm’s sustainability practice. His work includes shaping client engagement, providing internal education and coaching, developing new service offerings, and sharing thought leadership through writing and speaking.

Grounded in Health, Energy, Water, and Social Equity (HEWS), Scott applies an Integrative Process (IP) and Little’s proprietary framework to help clients achieve holistic, regenerative outcomes. These approaches consider how each project connects with its surroundings, neighborhoods, communities, and watershedsto strengthen financial, social, human, and environmental well-being.

A passionate advocate for community resilience and climate action, Scott has held leadership roles with the Urban Land Institute, CoreNet Global’s Mid-Atlantic Chapter, and Arlington County, VA. His contributions span sustainability planning, regional energy policy, and thought leadership in the built environment, including service on ULI’s national Redevelopment and Reuse Council, Program Committee, and ULI Washington’s TAP and Urban Plan programs.

Combining strategic insight, systems thinking, and hands-on experience, Scott helps clients and communities envision and build a more regenerative future.
