Passwords are Scary; Strong Authentication Can Protect You

According to the Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, North Carolina, an estimated 17 to 21 million people in the United States are affected by a fear of Friday the 13th, making it the most feared day and date in history. Some people are so paralyzed by fear that they avoid their normal routines in doing business, taking flights or even getting out of bed.

According to the Verizon 2017 Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), 81% of hacking attacks last year were caused by weak or stolen passwords. Some people are so overwhelmed by guidance to create separate “strong” passwords for each service they use online that they instead use the same password across all of their sites.

On Friday, October 13 the FIDO Alliance, National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the Electronic Transactions Association (ETA) are pleased to host this Future of Authentication Policy Forum to discuss why the best way to address both of these fears is the adoption of strong, multi-factor authentication.
