Fusion Bellydance - An entry point for the ATS/FCBD style dancer with Jill Parker.

Have you ever wanted to step outside your comfort zone? Now is your chance! I have designed a workshop specifically for the ATS/FCBD dancer. It is fun to expand horizons as an artist. I can facilitate that. As a dancer who made that leap, I can assist you in that journey.

ATS/FCBD is such a beautiful style to watch and participate in when executed well. Being able to achieve unison within a group using cues is exciting! It is a foundation that I am so happy to have had, and continue to enjoy.

Dancing to music you love has you hanging on every pause, embellishment, texture, and rhythm change. It is invigorating to express the mood and feeling music evokes in you as an artist, and dancer.

One of the differences between ATS and Fusion is that Fusion bellydance allows you to express music that moves you in nuanced ways.

Fusion bellydance offers an opportunity for deep expression of musicality whether folk music styling, folktronica, Balkan music, pop music, drum solos, moody esoteric vibes, 4/4, 9/8, A-rhythmic, etc. These are things you can begin to unlock and express. I will help illuminate and facilitate familiarity with expressing musicality in new ways.

This workshop series is for you if you are:

ATS/FCBD dancers looking to expand their repertoire of movements and combinations, for partner improvisation work.
ATS/FCBD dancers looking to develop the left side of the body to create more balance and longevity in their dancing.
ATS/FCBD dancers looking to unlock their potential and dabble in fusion bellydance.
ATS/FCBD dancers looking to become fusion belly dancers.

Included in this series:

6 classes 1.5 hours each on Zoom. We will meet twice a month for 3 months.
Access to Zoom recordings for 30 days after the series concludes.
1 private lesson where we will go over your goals and review your homework video submission and receive feedback.
Technique training.
Lecture.
Video homework for progress review.
Facebook group for sharing resources, support, training videos, homework, and community building.

Some of the things we will cover:

Begin your experimentation into becoming a fusion belly dancer.
Differences and similarities in posture and technique.
Differences and similarities in style and vocabulary.
Expanding your repertoire of movements for partner improv.
Lecture on the beginnings of Fusion bellydance. (Its roots in and transition from ATS dance.)
Prioritize your unique goals in this exploration. Anything else you pick up is a bonus.
Finding balance. Learning to access both right and left sides of the body.
Technique.
Musicality.

One-Hour Private Lesson: To be scheduled between student and Jill prior to the last Zoom class.

About Jill Parker:

Jill began her bellydance journey in the late 1980’s, when Rina Rall brought her to a class at a local church taught by Carolena Nericcio. It was a moment that changed her life profoundly. She became a founding member of FCBD, alongside such incredible dancers as Rina Rall, Paulette Reese Dennis, Thorne Coyle, Beth Frue (RIP), and the Queen at the helm, Carolena herself.

Post FCBD, Jill founded her own professional trail blazing dance theater company that birthed many of today's great fusion dancers. She has also pioneered a groundbreaking dance style and taught many of today’s great fusion dancers. For more than three decades, Jill has honed a masterful delivery method that truly facilitates breakthroughs for dancers of all skill levels. She is a generous teacher with a rare gift for demystifying this sensuous form by meticulously and effectively breaking down complex movements to their essentials and making the technique, nuances, and fluent embodiment accessible.
