About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Kitchens and Bathrooms aren’t just expensive—they’re complex. And when they don’t work, the stress shows up in your everyday life. Whether you’re renovating, building new, or trying to fix a layout that just doesn’t feel right, this workshop is designed to help you take control.

Function First: Kitchens & Baths is a deep dive into smart, beautiful design decisions that serve real life—not just surface style. Led by seasoned designer and project manager Stephanie Coley, this workshop blends decades of experience, best practices, and real-world stories to help you design spaces that function, flow, and feel good.

In this session, you’ll learn:

  • The essential zones of kitchens and bathrooms (and how to plan for them)
  • Space-saving solutions, layout rules, and workflow fixes
  • How lighting, plumbing, finishes, and code impact design
  • What to prioritize (and what not to waste money on!)
  • How to blend function with comfort and personal style

You’ll receive:

  • Printable templates + a mini planning workbook
  • Real design examples and tips from actual projects
  • Optional access to a discounted 15-min consultation

No design background needed—just a desire to do it right.

This isn’t about following trends. It’s about building spaces that make life easier—and feel better every day.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is for homeowners, renovators, and others planning to remodel a kitchen or bathroom—whether it’s your 1st or your 5th time. If you're ready to make smart, lasting decisions about layout, function, and finish choices, this session is for you.

Do I need design experience?

Nope! You don’t need to be a designer to understand the principles. This class breaks down technical concepts into practical, real-life language—so you can stop guessing and start making better decisions.

How is this different from the Beginner Workshop?

This workshop goes deeper into the functional and technical side of design, specifically for kitchens and baths. It covers essential layout planning, storage, lighting, and other considerations. If the Beginner Workshop helped you think differently about rooms - this one takes you much deeper!

Will I get a recording?

Yes, a recording will be available to all registrants for a limited time. If you can’t attend live, you can still learn on your own time.

What materials will I receive?

Based on your ticket type, you'll receive downloadable templates, printable planning worksheets, helpful hints, and examples from real projects to help guide your process. If you choose the premium tier, you'll also get a 30-minute consultation option for personalized feedback.

Can I take this class if I haven’t taken the Beginner Workshop?

Absolutely. This class is self-contained and focused specifically on kitchens and baths. While the Beginner session offers a helpful foundation, you do not need it to benefit from the elements of this workshop.

Will this help me avoid expensive mistakes?

That’s the goal. Kitchens and baths are two of the most expensive spaces to update—and where mistakes are hardest to undo. This workshop gives you tools and clarity to plan better before money is spent.

How interactive is the class?

The session includes live instruction with opportunities for Q&A. The highest-tier registrants will also receive a private follow-up due to the package selected.

What if I want help beyond the workshop?

You’ll have the option to book additional consulting time at a special rate after the session. We’ll share how to do that during the workshop and via email.

“What if I have a small kitchen/bathroom?”

The size of your project doesn't reduce the complexity of the information you will need to complete it. In fact, small spaces present big problems when you're trying to fit your daily functions into a compact room!

Is this a design software or drafting class?

No, this workshop focuses on layout logic, planning insights, and overall kitchen/bath prep—not on software training or 3D modeling. The session will help you develop a better plan with a design professional or on your own.

Can I ask questions about my specific kitchen or bathroom?

Yes—within reason. However, general questions are encouraged most during the session. For detailed responses, choose the highest-tier of participation to gain detailed responses during a 30-minute follow-up consultation.

What if I’m just starting to dream about a project—is this too early for me?

Not at all. In fact, this is the best time to attend—before you make costly commitments or feel rushed by contractors. You’ll gain clarity that supports your next steps in budgeting and selection decisions.

“Will you recommend products or brands?”

Yes & No. This session is focused on planning and function—not specific product endorsements. But you’ll learn how to assess what products fit your goals, quality results, and future needs.

No worries—templates are designed to work digitally or on plain paper. You can follow along with a notebook if needed. The only template that possibly can't be used offline is the gridline sheets, but you can buy a quad paper notebook at most retailers selling office supplies.

Do you offer other workshops or bundles?

Yes! There is a Beginner’s Room Design Workshop and an Advanced session on full-home planning being scheduled. You’ll have the option to choose a bundle when checking out or register for other sessions after this session.

Can professionals or design students attend?

Yes—this class welcomes pros looking for language to explain function to clients, or students interested in planning logic over surface style. It is also a great primer for collaboration with contractors/subcontractors.
