MORE EVENT INFO
Location: Hirundo Wildlife Refuge, Gate 3, 35 Hudson Road, Alton, Maine 04468 (MAPS BELOW)
How to prepare:
Wear layers, wear sturdy shoes, and bring a water bottle. You will need bugspray and would benefit from a headnet to use while we board and offboard the boats. You are welcome to bring snacks on this trip. We also suggest sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen.
Bathrooms:
There will be an outhouse available for use before and after the paddle. This outhouse is NOT ADA accessible as there is a step to get inside, no support railings, and it is a small space. There are no lights or running water in this outhouse, but hand sanitizer is provided.
Event Conditions:
This event will occur entirely outdoors. There is a steep decline/incline to and from the boat launch area. You will be entering and exiting the canoes with limited paddle guide assistance. This will be a casual, slow paced, paddle.
Accessibility Info:
This event will occur entirely outdoors. There is a short, grassy hill (Average slope 8.6%, maximum 16%) to and from the boat launch area. There is seating available at the top and bottom of the hill. Hirundo volunteers/staff can bring kayaks/canoes from the boatyard to the water’s edge if needed, and hold the vessel steady while entering/leaving. This will be a casual, slow-paced paddle. Single kayaks, double kayaks, and canoes are available.

The final determination for cancellation is dependent on the weather. Weather-related cancellations will be made 3 hours in advance of the program. Please check your email before traveling to Hirundo Wildlife Refuge.
