Overview

Join us for a short hike in the Frontcountry under the silvery light of the moon.

Knowledgeable guides will discuss the moon, nocturnal wildlife, Government Canyon history, and more. The hike is approximately one-mile round trip over fairly level terrain. 

Who is Invited: Open to ages 10 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please.

This is a public program intended for individuals or families. If you would like to bring a group for a program at Government Canyon, please contact the Park Interpreter at Lisa.Cole@tpwd.texas.gov to schedule at a different time. 

Registration, Fees, Day Pass & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike.Registration opens on Saturday, two weeks prior to the event, and closes at noon, the Thursday before the event.

Though the hike is free, entrance fees to the Natural Area apply. To save time at the Fee Booth and ensure entrance on busy days, please pre-purchase and PRINT OUT a Day Pass. SPECIAL NOTE: Reserving a Day Pass is NOT the same as making a reservation for the hike.

This program is weather-dependent and subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by calling GCSNA’s main office at 210-688-9055, or visit one of the GCSNA social media pages listed below.

When & Where to Meet: Meet at the Rock Garden beside the Visitor Center. Please be in place and ready to go no later than 6:00 pm.

What to Wear & Bring: Dress for hiking outdoors; comfortable shoes, bug spray and a hat are recommended. Bring at least 1 liter of water per person.
