About this event
Danny Kijkov: The State of Frontend at STRV
STRV is well-known for worshiping React and its ecosystem. But there is much more to the frontend world beyond React. Let’s take a look at how we approach building apps at STRV.
Konstantin Lebedev: JAM Stack @ STRV
Learn why and when we prefer statically-built applications, and see what’s inside STRV’s jar of JAM.
Peter Varholak: Dependency Management with Dependabot
Keeping dependencies up to date is an important, yet oftentimes overlooked aspect of development. As developers, we like to focus on the exciting features in our projects, instead of manually updating an ever-expanding list of dependencies. Thankfully, some tools can help us with automating this tedious task—and one of them is Dependabot. Let’s discuss how we can make security a first-class citizen in our projects.
Rodolfo Gobbi: Visual Differing Regression Tests
Writing unit tests for frontend is usually cumbersome and, in the end, they can’t actually ensure that rendered UI is pixel perfect. But with a simple visual differing test, you can cover the equivalent of dozens of unit tests—which ensures that your application is seen by the user just as you intend.
Bernardo Sunderhus: Web Components: What, Why, How
The boost of frontend frameworks dazzled the existence of a native pattern for composition and reutilisation. Now, after 9 years, what has become of it? Why should I know about this? How can I use it? And who is using this nowadays?
Matheus Albuquerque: The Best Is yet to Come: the Future of React
A wise man once said: “React is such a good idea that we will spend the rest of the decade continuing to explore its implications and applications.” In 2017, React Fiber was “the thing” within the community. In 2018, hooks–and the completely new mindset that came along with them–took that role on, with a little help of Concurrent React. But a few big things came next: React Fire, React Flare and React Fusion. These go from completely rethinking the event system and building a compiler to optimizing React, and much more! In this talk, we’ll look at what these things are, how they fit together with other changes and, hopefully, by the end of the talk, you’ll be just as enthusiastic as I am about what’s coming down the line.
