Agenda

Dementia Care Pilot Program Results

Our Certified Caregiving Consultants partnered with Plans4Care, a technology start-up to offer 5 coaching sessions to dementia family caregivers in order to resolve 3 care challenges. We’ll share the results of our program, including the care challenges we resolved, the effectiveness of using technology with coaching sessions and the profiles of our participants.

Our Life Right Now

Funding for programs and services that support family caregivers is at risk. How will we support those who need help? We'll share insights into the right-now reality of family caregivers.

Our Well Being

During these uncertain times, we may be challenged to do more with less. With fewer resources, we may feel stressed, stretched and overwhelmed. We'll close our morning together with ideas on how to focus on our own well-being.

Denise Brown launched The Caregiving Years Training Academy in April 2020 after selling CareGiving.com, an online community she launched in 1996.

In January 2016, Denise debuted the Certified Caregiving Consultant training program which helps former family caregivers launch a business to help current family caregivers. The program also helps professionals who work with family caregivers communicate effectively and offer the right resource at the right time. She has since added additional programs, including the Certified Caregiving Advocate, Educator, Facilitator and Specialist training programs. More than 400 individuals from eight different countries have enrolled in her training programs.

In 1997, Denise began an ongoing project of staging the family caregiver experience. She regularly refines her six stages to reflect the current challenges faced by family caregivers. The Caregiving Years, Six Stages to a Meaningful Journey is now the foundation for her training programs and Master Classes.

Next Avenue named Denise a 2017 Influencer in Aging, one of “50 advocates, researchers, thought leaders, innovators, writers and experts who continue to push beyond traditional boundaries and change our understanding of what it means to grow older.”

Debra Hallisey cared for first for her father and then for her mother. After her father’s death in 2015, she became responsible for her disabled mother, for whom she cared until her mother’s death in 2022.

After 25 years of experience as a consultant building and enhancing corporate training programs for Fortune 500 companies in the United States and Canada, taking on this caregiving role resulted in Debra losing her job.

As Deb took on the roles of financial adviser, caregiver, social director—as well as her continuing role as daughter—she found herself asking “what do I do?” and “where do I start?” She brought her to the problem, and in the process, learned how many other people are in a similar situation, caring for a parent, a sibling, a spouse or significant other.

Deb used the knowledge she had gained to develop www.AdvocateforMomandDad.com. The site offers practical advice for caregivers and learn from others how they handled challenges on issues such as legal, financial, insurance, and caregiving. Deb's blog was named as one of the Top 50 Caregiver blogs and featured in Aging Insider. She has been published in Kaiser Health News and AARP.

Deb is the author of Your Caregiver Relationship Contract, available in both English and Spanish, A Relationship Contract for Dementia Caregivers. A caregiving knowledge expert and an advocate for older adults and their families, Debra is a Certified Caregiving Consultant™ and Certified Dementia Practitioner®. She holds an MA in Leadership and Supervision.

Trudy Madden is a former family caregiver who cared for her mom and dad with Parkinson’s disease. She is an healthcare professional with over 40 years experience in the healthcare industry but struggled to find the resources needed to care for her parents. Experiencing this void first hand, she created SENIOR MOMENT SOLUTIONS LLC to support other family caregivers as they care for their spouses or aging loved ones.

As a Caregiving Consultant & Coach, Trudy helps family caregivers during difficult times by identifying strategies to avoid burnout and provides tools to survive their caregiving journey. She also helps employee caregivers navigate the challenges of job expectations and family responsibilities.

Trudy is the owner of Senior Moment Solutions LLC and a Certified Caregiving Consultant (CCC), Certified Professional Coach (CPC), and Certified Dementia Practitioner (CDP). In addition, she is a Grief Support Group Facilitator with prior experience as a hospice volunteer. She has an MS in Biology and BS in Medical Technology.
