Content Description: This 6-hour virtual training is designed for metal health clinicians and graduate students who want to know more about the process of EMDR and how it can be an effective modality for treating trauma. This training does not substitute basic training, and will not give the atendee the ability to utilize EMDR with clients.

This training equips Tennessee mental health professionals with essential skills in suicide prevention, risk assessment, and intervention. Participants will learn to identify warning signs, utilize evidence-based tools, and implement effective strategies such as safety planning and collaborative intervention. The session also covers legal and ethical responsibilities under Tennessee law, including duty to protect. Designed for clinical application, the training includes real-world case scenarios, up-to-date resources, and a focus on both client safety and clinician well-being.

Learning Objectives:

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  1. Participants will be able to define trauma and describe its impact on the brain and body, including the neurobiological processes that influence memory and emotional regulation.
  2. Participants will be able to identify and explain the eight phases of EMDR therapy within the framework of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model.
  3. Participants will be able to describe how bilateral stimulation supports trauma reprocessing and outline variations in its clinical application.
  4. Participants will be able to discuss modifications of EMDR for children and adolescents, including strategies for integration with play therapy techniques.
  5. Participants will be able to analyze cultural and ethical considerations in the use of EMDR, including informed consent, client readiness, and culturally responsive adaptations.
  6. Participants will be able to apply knowledge of EMDR through case vignettes and discussion, recognizing appropriate use of EMDR with different client populations.
