“When you see a patient being treated by technology that you've helped to develop, there is a richness in that, a satisfaction that is beyond any measure. There just aren't that many careers that give you that depth of fulfillment."
Interventional cardiologist Paul Yock has had a transformational impact on patient care around the world. Beyond his direct contributions as an inventor of paradigm-changing health technologies (including the Rapid Exchange angioplasty and stenting system), he catalyzed a sea change in health technology innovation education with the formation of the Medical Device Network and then the launch of Stanford Biodesign. As one half of the duo that initiated the Stanford Biodesign Innovation Fellowship 25 years ago, he guided the ambitions of hundreds of aspiring innovators and helped nurture an unparalleled community of coaches, mentors, and advisors across health technology domains. Additionally, as director of Stanford Biodesign for more than two decades, he played a pivotal role in building Biodesign into a globally recognized, widely emulated force in training health technology innovators.
On Monday, September 22, join the global Biodesign community for a conversation like no other, celebrating the remarkable journey of an extraordinary clinician, inventor, leader, educator, mentor, and friend.
