About this event

  • Event lasts 7 hours

From Risk to Reason is a day-long gathering focused on transforming how we approach HIV prevention—moving beyond stigma toward community-informed, equity-centered solutions. Grounded in Black feminist and trans feminist frameworks, this event offers critical dialogue, practical tools, and medical updates to support inclusive sexual health strategies.

Participants will engage in interactive learning, explore the latest in PrEP and PEP, and leave with actionable insights for applying justice-driven prevention models in their own work or community.

Lunch is provided. Certificates available upon evaluation completion. Free to attend.

Coffee available when doors open at 8:30am.

The mission of Akron AIDS Collaborative (AAC) is to broaden the network of caring organizations in the minority community; to influence social norms that contribute to the prevention of HIV/AIDS; and to increase advocacy for social services for people of color who are living with HIV/AIDS, and people who have suffered from sexual orientation stigma within the African American community.

AAC operates the Bayard Rustin LGBTQ+ Resource Center, a drop-in facility that offers case management services, which include housing, mental health, and substance use referrals, as well as help with navigating social services, like food stamps; HIV and COVID-19 testing; access to a shower and personal care items; access to a washer and dryer; and finally, a clothing bank, designed for people who identify as trans, and have a hard time finding gender-affirming clothing, in the proper size.
