• 1 Hour Presentation: For most of us the love affair with the black and white image started with a film captured and silver printed image. The goal, today, is to take that which we fell in love with of film photography and apply it to digital photography. Where the once impossible in the analog world, becomes merely an opinion in the digital world.
The issue is theories about digital black and white capture approaches and conversion techniques are like politicians making election promises. Every one of them claims to be the penultimate solution to your needs.
Regardless of their claims, usually, you find yourself still needing a solution that creates images that look like photographs and not like something the viewer sees as "something you did in Photoshop”.
This 1 hour presentation with Nikon Ambassador Vincent Versace is the evolution of thought that began as a the chapter in his first book "Welcome to Oz: From Oz to Kansas. How to convert an Image to Black and White Without Ever Leaving the RGB Color Space" and was finalized in the book “From Oz to Kansas: Almost every Black and White Conversion Technique Known to Man.”
The goal of this discussion is to explore and understand the importance and power of color in the conversion process. You will learn a way of approaching your images that will answer the three most asked questions: “Did you see that color image in black and white?”, “How come my black and white images don’t look like your black and white images?” and, “Can you teach me how to ‘see’ color in black and white?”
About your instructor: Vincent Versace is an American photographer and a Nikon Ambassador. He is a recipient of the Computer World Smithsonian Award in Media Arts & Entertainment. His work is part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History.
• 30 minute Virtual Q&A with a Nikon Rep: Stick around or jump in at 10:30am for a Q&A with our Nikon Rep to get your questions answered. Don't be shy, we can learn from each others questions. Menu settings, camera settings, what are all those switches on your telephoto lens and when should I use them, how to update firmware....
We can't have reps in the store, so this is the next best thing.
