You'll learn the complete process of making and water bath canning blackberry jam, including proper fruit preparation, cooking techniques for perfect consistency, adding pectin , filling and headspace techniques, lid application, and the crucial steps for processing in a boiling water

Do I need any prior jam-making or canning experience?

Accepted Answer

No prior experience is necessary! This class is designed for beginners, but those with some experience who want to refine their jam-making skills or learn specific blackberry jam techniques will also benefit.

Is this a hands-on class, or demonstration-based?

Accepted Answer

This is a hands-on class! You'll be actively participating in each step of the jam-making and canning process, from preparing the berries to loading the canner.

Will we be using a specific recipe, or general guidelines?

Accepted Answer

We will follow tested and approved recipes to ensure safety and quality, using traditional  methods . You'll receive copies of these recipes to take home.

What kind of pectin will we be using? High sugar, low sugar, or no pectin?

Accepted Answer

We will be using classic high-methoxyl pectin, which requires a certain sugar content to set.

What materials or equipment do I need to bring?

Accepted Answer

You don't need to bring any equipment! All necessary ingredients, canning equipment, and jars will be provided for use during the class. You may want to bring a notebook and pen for taking notes.

Will I be taking home what we make in class?

Accepted Answer

Yes! You will be able to take home a jar of blackberry jam you make and can during the class.
