From Fannie to Combahee: Black Queer Feminism for Our Time
Overview
Join the BYP100 Detroit Chapter for the launch of our Political Education Series! In this session, we explore the revolutionary lineage of Black feminist thought and its critical importance for our organizing today.
"From Fannie to Combahee: Black Queer Feminism for Our Time" will trace the path from Fannie Lou Hamer's civil rights activism to the Combahee River Collective's landmark statement, which laid the groundwork for understanding interlocking systems of oppression. We'll examine how these foundational principles inform the Black Queer Feminist lens that guides BYP100's work in the fight for Black liberation.
This session is perfect for:
- Those new to Black feminist thought
- Organizers looking to deepen their political analysis
- Community members wanting to understand the "why" behind today's social justice movements
- Anyone ready to connect historical struggle to present-day action
