From Draft to Done: A 3-Week Story Sprint

Most published pieces go through many drafts before they smoothly read from beginning to end. American writer David Foster Wallace called himself a “five-draft man” and novelist Jennifer Egan has said each chapter of a book can get “up to 50 rewrites.” Whatever your process, writing and re-writing can feel lonely, isolating and difficult. Most writers seek out feedback and companionship along the way, and in this class, we offer you exactly that. In From Draft to Done: A 3-Week Story Sprint, start the New Year with a sustained focus on your writing, alongside a global community of writers all working towards the goal of finishing their piece.

Facilitated by Write Salon co-founder Willow Mata, this class is completely asynchronous (no scheduled meetings). You will receive optional daily prompts and writing guidance and do timed, daily writes on your own schedule to help you build momentum.

• 30 minutes per day time commitment, plus optional longer stretches in the final week
• Three different partners over the three weeks
• No sync meetings, allowing for different schedules and timezones

Appropriate for fiction and nonfiction writers who’ve been writing a while and have a draft in progress; an outline or storyboard; or simply an idea waiting to take shape as a messy first draft.

Not intended for beginning writers; if you’re just starting out, or looking to try lots of different writing ideas, we recommend our Daily Sprints instead; they offer daily prompts and mini lessons and there’s no expectation that you be working on one piece.

All genres welcome. No live sessions – everything happens via email and in Google Docs.
