Join the Young Press Club on Thursday, Jan. 19 for a virtual workshop on freelance reporting. This event is open to all ages.

Hear from our expert panelists:

  • (Moderator) Abigail Hakas — Managing editor of the Latrobe Bulletin and former freelance journalist in Pittsburgh.
  • Natalie Bencivenga — An award-winning independent journalist and entreprenuer, featured in local publications and national outlets like MSNBC and Fox News.
  • Aakanksha Agarwal — A wine, travel and lifestyle writer whose work can be found in Public Source, Pittsburgh Magazine and Pittsburgh Review of Books, as well as West Coast and national publications.
  • Ethan Beck — Pittsburgh-born, Brooklyn-based writer whose work can be found in the Washington Post, Paste Magazine, Public Source and more.
  • Matt Petras — Visiting Lecturer of English at the University of Pittsburgh and a freelance journalist with bylines in Public Source, City Paper, The Daily Beast, Kotaku and more.

Topic areas: pitching, negotiating compensation, curating your personal brand, reporting process.

The panel will be followed by an audience Q&A. Attendees are encouraged to bring pitch ideas to the workshop.
