About this event

Join us for FREE qigong and taiji in Coolidge Park in Brookline every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month.

We'll begin each class with some qigong (breathing and stretching exercises) and then practice the Wudang 28 form.

All are welcome! No prior experience necessary. Bring comfortable clothes to move in, comfortable shoes (smoother bottom is better), and water to stay hydrated!

Coolidge Park is easily accessible from the B line (a couple blocks' walk from the Harvard St. stop) and a 10-15 minute walk from the C line (Coolidge Corner stop). There is also ample on-street parking surrounding the park.

Frequently asked questions

What is Taiji?

Taiji - or tai chi - is a traditional Chinese practice that combines slow, deliberate movements, meditation, and deep breathing exercises. While taiji is originally a martial art, many people practice it for health, as it works your coordination, flexibility, balance, and focus.

What is Qigong?

Qigong is "energy work." The aim is to cultivate the body's "qi" (or "chi") throughout the body to help you move more smoothly. The slow movements and focus on breathing are great for releasing tension and mobilizing the body.

So are we going to fight people?

Ha, not in this class. However, my philosophy on taiji is that in order to get the full health benefits, it helps to know the martial applications so you know how the body should be moving. Even if you don't plan on fighting, I find the visualization helps people understand how to move properly.

I've never done tai chi or any martial art. Is this for me?

No problem! All are welcome, regardless of experience level. Just show up and have fun! I'll offer guidance, demonstrations, and follow-alongs to help you.
