MORE DETAILS
The ERA is needed because today voting is still the only right granted to women in the U.S. Constitution. Just one more state needs to ratify before full gender equality can be added to the Constitution, and Virginia should be that state. It's time to make history in the Commonwealth!
The FILM is inspired by a pivotal time in American history, and stars Hillary Swank as Alice Paul who leads a group of young women who risk their lives fighting for women's right to vote. Paul authored the Equal Rights Amendment, so it's fitting this film will help kick off ERA ratification efforts around the state. Filmed in Richmond Virginia, this true story has striking similarities to today, and contemporary filmmaking techniques and music add energy and relevance to this period piece. Iron Jawed Angels premiered at Sundance in 2004 before its television premiere on HBO. It also stars Frances O'Connor, Julia Ormand, and Angelica Huston.
The film is NR (Not Rated) but has mature content and is not recommended for children. Directed by Katja von Garnier. 125 mins.
