July 10th paddle cancelled due to rain and stormwater runoff

From late June to early September, join the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council for our free weekly paddles every Thursday afternoon, open to all Greenway visitors. This is a BRIEF paddle ride (10-15 minutes) to try canoeing and experience the Woonasquatucket from the river. With Spanish- and English-speaking staff and volunteers, the series is welcoming and accessible to everyone. The paddles kick off on Thursday, June 26, at 4:00 PM with a community celebration featuring a press conference, sponsor recognition, live music, refreshments, and more. These events are free to attend thanks to the generous sponsorship of AARP Rhode Island!

You can stop by anytime 4:45-7 pm for the community paddle rides. Paddles are FIRST COME FIRST SERVED so your ticket does not guarantee a ride, you must come and sign in at Riverside Park to save your spot. Last call for arriving paddlers at 6:45 pm.

Frequently asked questions

Are there weight limits for boats or PFDs?

Canoes can hold about 940 lbs, depending on water depth. We can fit 1 - 2 people in each canoe with a staff member. We have various-sized life vests with a max chest size of 56 inches. We are working on procuring ones with larger chest sizes. Reach out with any additional questions!

Can I bring my young children?

Children are allowed as long as they can wear a life vest. The minimum chest size of our smallest life vests is 28 inches.

Can we swim in the water?

This section of the river is still too polluted with the chemical Dioxin for us to safely swim. Dioxin is only harmful when ingested in large amounts. Participants are encouraged to shower after the event with soap and water.
