Frame by Frame: A Riso Animation Workshop by Suejee Lee
Join us on Sunday, June 29th from 10-2 pm for a FREE workshop with RisoLAB Spring 2025 Artist in Residence Suejee Lee at the SVA RisoLAB! No experience required-open to the public!
RISO Animation is created when taking video footage and processing its images through the risograph printer. This process begins digitally, is transformed with analog materials, and then converted back to a digital form. This transformation creates unique details, beautiful textures, and charming imperfections that make this medium special. With any emerging medium, RISO Animation is a joy to experiment with, and the potential is endless!
In this course, students will be given a thorough overview of the RISO Animation workflow, including file preparation, risograph printing basics, and sequencing images. Students will also have an opportunity to print their own projects. Upon completion of this workshop, students will receive 1 high resolution digital scan and 10 copies of their printed projects.
Students will need to bring the following materials:
- Animation or video footage that is 5 seconds or less
- A laptop with the required programs or similar programs installed:
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe Bridge (Optional)
- Adobe After Effects
- Adobe Media Encoder
- Spectrolite (Optional)
- USB flash drive or hard drive
This workshop is for animators, filmmakers, people who like to record footage, and/or people interested in learning about RISO. There is no prior experience necessary, but experience with Photoshop and After Effects is a plus.
Please confirm your attendance 24 hours in advance of the workshop. If you do not confirm, then we will open your spot to our waitlist. We will send an email reminder as well. Thank you!
