FOUR ARGUMENTS WITH GANDHI

This lecture will analyze four major arguments that Gandhi had in his lifetime—on non-violence vs violence, on the abolition of Untouchability, on inter-faith harmony, and on alternate routes to the elimination of poverty—and their contemporary resonances in India and the world.

Dr. Ramachandra Guha is an Indian historian, biographer and newspaper columnist. His research interests include environmental, social, political and cricket history. His two-volume biography of M. K. Gandhi, Gandhi Before India (2013) and the most recent Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World (2018) have been internationally acclaimed. The New York Times has referred to Guha as "perhaps the best among India’s non fiction writers"; Time Magazine has called him "Indian democracy’s preeminent chronicler."

Guha has been awarded the Sahitya Akademi Award, the R. K. Narayan Prize, the Padma Bhushan, Leopold-Hidy Prize of the American Society of Environmental History, the Malcolm Adiseshiah Award for excellence in Social Science research, the Ramnath Goenka Prize for excellence in Journalism and Mac Arthur Research and Writing Award.

Admission is free. Open to the public.
